Three days, two settings: the ceremony on the beach at Las Peñitas, then dinner and dancing in León.
The groom's side will be staying at a hotel in Las Peñitas for the night before — a relaxed evening by the beach. (Plans for the bride's side to come.)
Las PeñitasWe marry on the beach at Las Peñitas in the late afternoon. Come a little early to settle in.
Las Peñitas beachA drink on the sand while the sun goes down.
Las Peñitas beachWe'll travel together by minibus from the beach into the city — about 30 minutes — to El Convento.
Las Peñitas → LeónDinner, drinks and dancing in the courtyard of Hotel El Convento, beside the San Francisco church, until the early hours.
El Convento, LeónA relaxed brunch and the last of the food before people head off. No rush.
Hotel Cacique Adiact, LeónMost of the celebration is in León, so we'd suggest basing yourself there. Here's where we'd point different groups — all walkable to the old town.
Our reception venue — a boutique hotel built in the style of a 17th-century convent, beside the San Francisco church and 5 minutes from the cathedral. Outdoor pool, garden courtyard, a family room, and a well-regarded restaurant. Staying here puts you where the party is.
A warm, family-run hotel near Parque San Juan and the venue for Sunday's brunch. Big swimming pool, gym, garden and restaurant, with some rooms offering kitchenettes — comfortable and personal. They can also arrange airport pick-ups and transport.
An elegant little colonial-style boutique hotel, only eight rooms, a short walk from the cathedral. Outdoor pool, garden, terrace and breakfast included — intimate and central, ideal for couples.
A characterful, colourful colonial option in the heart of León — central, friendly and good value, with the old town's cafés, churches and bars on the doorstep. A nice pick if you want to be in the thick of the city.

Everything here is in or near León — Nicaragua's old colonial capital, with churches, revolutionary murals and volcanoes you can climb. Worth a day or two either side of the wedding.
The whitewashed rooftop of León Cathedral — the largest cathedral in Central America and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The Basílica Catedral de la Asunción dominates the central plaza. Climb to the famous white rooftop for views over the city and across to the volcanoes — go early, before the tiles heat up.
On the central plaza, this museum tells the story of the Sandinista revolution — often guided by veterans who lived it, with rooftop views to finish. The painted streets around it are good for a wander.
Hike up the black slopes of Cerro Negro and sledge back down on a board. Half-day trips run from the city.
The Maribios chain lines the horizon — including San Cristóbal (above), Nicaragua's highest volcano. Hike Telica for glowing lava in its crater at dusk, or summit El Hoyo on a longer trek; guided trips leave straight from León.
Tour the distillery near Chichigalpa, between León and Managua — tastings included. The rum is very good.
León's nearest beach, about 20 minutes away, and where we're marrying. Easy surf and surf schools, with fresh fish and a cold beer by the water.
